The year is 1954. In a small village, the people of Mahato Tola community didn’t know how to light the kerosene lamp in which paraffin is used. Godhan (Amitosh Nagpal) is the only person of the community who knows how to light the kerosene lamp. But Godhan has been treated shabbily by the panchayat and hence he might not oblige. Godhan’s maternal relatives had left him property in the village but the panchayat didn’t allow him to have it transferred in his name. Moreover, Godhan was in love with Munri (Anuradha Mukherjee) but as her mother objected to this love affair, the panchayat force them to end it. What happens next forms the rest of the film.
